As the holidays approach, your computer can start feeling as cluttered as your closet — full of old files, photos, and programs you don’t use anymore. Taking a little time now to tidy up can make everything easier later — from finding receipts to sharing family photos.

Here’s how to give your digital life a clean sweep before the busy season:

1️⃣ Clean Up Your Desktop

If your desktop looks like a junk drawer, it’s time for a reset.

🧹 Tip: Create folders for “Work,” “Personal,” and “Archive,” then drag files where they belong. Try keeping your desktop under 10 icons — it’ll start faster and feel calmer.

2️⃣ Tame Your Downloads Folder

Most of what’s there can probably go.

📁 Tip: Sort by “Date Modified” and delete anything you haven’t opened in months. Move important items to permanent folders or cloud storage.

3️⃣ Organize Photos and Screenshots

The holidays bring even more photos — make space now.

📸 Tip: Use a cloud service like OneDrive, Google Photos, or iCloud to back up and automatically sort your images. Delete blurry duplicates while you’re at it.

4️⃣ Review Your Apps and Programs

Old or unused software can slow your system and pose security risks.

⚙️ Tip: On Windows, open “Add or Remove Programs.” On Mac, drag apps to Trash. Keep what you use weekly, archive what’s rare, uninstall the rest.

5️⃣ Back Up and Sync Your Data

Once you’ve cleaned up, make sure it’s protected.
