No Audio in Zoom? Here’s How to Fix It (Step-by-Step Guide)

We’ve all been there… You join a Zoom meeting and suddenly—nothing. You can’t hear anyone, or worse, no one can hear you.

 

If Zoom audio isn’t working, don’t worry. Whether you’re on a Mac or PC, this guide will walk you through how to fix it fast.


🔊 Problem: You Can’t Hear Others in Zoom

 

Step 1: Test Zoom Audio Settings 

  • Open Zoom and go to Settings (gear icon).

  • Click Audio.

  • Under Speaker, click Test Speaker.

  • Choose the correct output device (headphones, speakers, etc.).

 

Step 2: Check Your Computer’s Sound Settings 

  • Windows: 

    Right-click the speaker icon in the bottom-right taskbar → Open Sound Settings → Under Output, choose your speaker or headset → Make sure the volume is up.

  • Mac: 

    Go to System Settings → Sound → Output → Select the correct device → Adjust the volume.

 

Step 3: During a Zoom Meeting 

  • Click the arrow next to the Mute/Unmute icon (bottom left).

  • Choose “Test Speaker & Microphone” to verify your audio setup.


🎤 Problem: Others Can’t Hear You in Zoom

 

Step 1: Check Zoom Microphone Settings 

  • In Zoom > Settings > Audio, test your microphone.

  • Speak — do the green bars move?

  • Select the correct microphone (built-in mic, headset, USB mic, etc.).

 

Step 2: Make Sure You’re Not Muted 

  • Click Unmute in the Zoom toolbar during the meeting.

  • Shortcut: Press Spacebar to temporarily unmute while speaking.

 

Step 3: Allow Zoom to Access Your Mic 

  • Windows: 

    Go to Settings → Privacy → Microphone → Enable “Allow apps to access your microphone.”

  • Mac: 

    Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone → Make sure Zoom is checked.


🔁 Still No Audio?

 

Here are a few final fixes to try:

  • 🔄 Restart Zoom and your computer.

  • 🎧 Plug in a different headset or mic.

  • ⬆️ Update Zoom: Open Zoom > Check for Updates.

  • 🧽 Reinstall Zoom if all else fails.
