When a Tune-Up Helps—and When It Doesn’t

Dec 17, 2025

Tune-ups get a bad reputation, and honestly, that’s fair.

Sometimes a cleanup helps:

  • Too many startup programs

  • Low disk space

  • Stuck updates

  • Temporary file buildup

But sometimes it does absolutely nothing—because the problem isn’t software.

A tune-up won’t fix:

  • A dying battery

  • A failing hard drive

  • Thermal throttling

  • Hardware compatibility issues

This is where frustration comes from. People pay for a cleanup, expect magic, and still have problems.

The difference between a good tune-up and a waste of time is knowing what you’re fixing first.

Diagnostics tell you:

  • Whether cleanup will help

  • Whether hardware is the issue

  • Whether replacement should even be considered

Later this week, I’ll be releasing a simple way to check first, then decide.
