🪟 Windows 10 Support Is Ending — But You Might Still Get Updates Free

Microsoft plans to officially end support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025, but here’s some surprising good news:

You might still be able to get security updates — for free.

Let’s break down what’s happening, what it means for you, and why you don’t have to panic.

📆 What’s Changing in October 2025?

  • Microsoft is ending official support for Windows 10 — no more regular security updates, bug fixes, or support for most users.

  • Businesses and schools can pay for extended support through a program called ESU (Extended Security Updates).

  • But here’s the twist…

🎁 Personal Users Can Still Get Updates (For a Year)

Microsoft recently announced that home users (non-business) will be eligible to receive free security updates for one more year — until October 2026if they enroll in the ESU program.

It’s free, but you have to opt in manually. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update, to see if ESU enrollment is available yet. It is being rolled out in stages, you may need to check back. If your computer ishows Windows 10 version 22H2 as an available update, run that first.

🤔 What Should You Do Now?

  1. Check your version:

Make sure you’re running Windows 10 version 22H2 — it’s the final supported version.

  2. Start planning for Windows 11:

Not all PCs can upgrade, so now’s the time to find out. (We can help with that.)

  3. Watch for Microsoft’s enrollment instructions:

The ESU sign-up for personal users is rolling out now. Everyone should have the option before October 2025 deadline.
